Call for Artists Juried Contest and Exhibition September 15, 2011
Robots: Open Media – $25 1st Prize
Special sizes and rules apply
The Harlingen Art Forum and D’Arte Centre Gallery issue a call to all artists for Robots: A Juried Show. All media are welcome, works must have been completed since January 1st 2010. Works should be Robotic in nature, no sexually explicit or objectionable material. Works must be EXACTLY 2.5 inches by 3.5 inches exclusive of framing. Works must be the original creation of the artist, signed and presentable in exhibition. Unframed works are preferred and will be shown suspended in plastic sleeves provided by the gallery. Entries are due at D’Arte Centre Gallery in Harlingen Texas by September 15th, 2011. Entries must be accompanied with the attached Entry Form and Jury Fee of $1 per piece. First prize of $25 will be awarded by the judges, other prizes may be awarded as entry fees allow. Works should be for sale, D’Arte Centre Gallery will retain a 30% commission on all sales.

Beachcombers 51st Annual Art Show is now history and we are pleased to report it was so successful. Over 2000 attendees flocked to the SPI Convention Centre to enjoy and purchase works of art.
Art there was too! Over 100 artists in all medias presented vivid, striking, comforting and even provocative works.
Thanx to everyone who made this a successful show, especial thanx to Sue for being the Voice of Beachcombers, Myrilla and Coralie for being everywhere and George for making the HAF booth the most successful it has ever been.
Look for the 52nd Beachcombers in 2011!

Miniature Awards and Exhibition

D’Arte Centre Gallery was a lively venue on Thursday night as members and Miniature Exhibition participating artists joined together to celebrate with awarding of ribbons and prize money.
Over 40 entries were received in the juried exhibition and the display was quite impressive.
The show was juried by a committee of area artists. Our congratulations to the winners:
First Prize: Ann Moncus – Bird in Nest
Second Prize: Donovan Sparhawk – In the Eye of the Beholder
Third Prize: Bernice Coleman – inhabited Tree
Honorable Mention: Chelsea Fedigan – Cuatro Amigos
Honorable Mention: Ann Moncus – Headdress
The Exhibit will remain on display into December and the pieces are available for sale.

Artist’s Eightieth Birthday – Congratulations to Lewis Levine
Lewis Levine – Longtime Harlingen clothier and artist celebrates his 80th Birthday in October. The D’Arte Centre Gallery is pleased to present an exhibit and sale of his art works throughout the month of October.
Many artists and friends gathered to honor Lewis and recognize his years of art and dedication to the arts on Sunday October 4th. Lewis’s art will remain on display throughout the month.

Palm Art Artist Reception and Exhibition

Carl Seale produces art from the cast-off date pods of palm trees in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas. The elegant shapes of these pods and the rich interior colors were the main attractions that led to the basic concept of PalmArt. Each pod exhibits an individual “personality” that often will suggest a special treatment or will contrast or complement others to create unique ensembles.
