Robots: Open Media – $25 1st Prize
Special sizes and rules apply
The Harlingen Art Forum and D’Arte Centre Gallery issue a call to all artists for Robots: A Juried Show. All media are welcome, works must have been completed since January 1st 2010. Works should be Robotic in nature, no sexually explicit or objectionable material. Works must be EXACTLY 2.5 inches by 3.5 inches exclusive of framing. Works must be the original creation of the artist, signed and presentable in exhibition. Unframed works are preferred and will be shown suspended in plastic sleeves provided by the gallery. Entries are due at D’Arte Centre Gallery in Harlingen Texas by September 15th, 2011. Entries must be accompanied with the attached Entry Form and Jury Fee of $1 per piece. First prize of $25 will be awarded by the judges, other prizes may be awarded as entry fees allow. Works should be for sale, D’Arte Centre Gallery will retain a 30% commission on all sales.

Workshops scheduled for January 2011

Two new workshops and an exciting free demonstration are scheduled for January 2011 at D’Arte Centre.
Monotype/Monoprints workshop with noted Brownsville Artist Marilyn Brown is scheduled for January 8th. Information, costs and supply lists are available here.
A Second in the Series of Free Demonstrations and Lectures by Golden Artist Colors Working Artist Barbara Jackson is scheduled for the evening of January 21st. Following last years exciting presentation the Harlingen Art Forum are lucky to have Barbara back to demonstrate Golden’s Open Acrylics and the new Digital Grounds. Barbara Jackson will lead Abstraction: A Different Way of Painting on Saturday January 22nd. This workshop will give participants a chance to try many Golden media while creating abstract works. Information, costs and materials lists are available here.

Our wonderful new space is open to receive artists works beginning Friday October 1st. We will be hanging the work throughout next week.

Beachcombers Art Show – A Successful 51st Edition

Beachcombers 51st Annual Art Show is now history and we are pleased to report it was so successful. Over 2000 attendees flocked to the SPI Convention Centre to enjoy and purchase works of art.
Art there was too! Over 100 artists in all medias presented vivid, striking, comforting and even provocative works.
Thanx to everyone who made this a successful show, especial thanx to Sue for being the Voice of Beachcombers, Myrilla and Coralie for being everywhere and George for making the HAF booth the most successful it has ever been.
Look for the 52nd Beachcombers in 2011!
Inner Child Reception

I would like to send a great big THANK YOU to everyone who participated in the show and visited the gallery in the month of April. Click here to view photos of the Inner Child artwork and of the reception. Overall the show was a success and we were able to raise a good amount of money for the Family Crisis Center. Plus we had a number of new faces in the gallery and a few gallery sales.

We hung the show on April 7th and it will be up until the end of the month.
Please join us for the Opening Reception Wednesday, April 21st at 6PM.
We will have a speaker from The Family Crisis Center, an awards ceremony, and light refreshments.
To raise awareness for the cause we will also be at the Family Day in Fair Park Saturday April 17th from 12-8PM. Audrey will be painting faces and passing out invitations to the reception. The event is part of the Harlingen Centennial Celebration for more events visit www.myharlingen.us.

Papermaking Workshop

A papermaking workshop will be held January 16th and 17th at D’Arte Centre from 10 am to 3 pm.
On Saturday the 16th each participant will help create raw pulp from recycled materials, utilizing the Western technique pull individual sheets, couch the papers, press and begin the process of drying. Also, raw paper pulp will be used for three dimensional sculpting or mold work.
On Sunday the 17th, dried sheets will be utilized to create envelopes and cards. Additional papers may be pulled, couched, pressed and begun drying.
Cost of the workshop is $15.
Participants should wear work clothes that can get wet.

Miniature Awards and Exhibition

D’Arte Centre Gallery was a lively venue on Thursday night as members and Miniature Exhibition participating artists joined together to celebrate with awarding of ribbons and prize money.
Over 40 entries were received in the juried exhibition and the display was quite impressive.
The show was juried by a committee of area artists. Our congratulations to the winners:
First Prize: Ann Moncus – Bird in Nest
Second Prize: Donovan Sparhawk – In the Eye of the Beholder
Third Prize: Bernice Coleman – inhabited Tree
Honorable Mention: Chelsea Fedigan – Cuatro Amigos

The Exhibit will remain on display into December and the pieces are available for sale.
